Parkview School of MLS: Serology and Immunology

Course Description

Lecture, reading, and laboratory rotation will cover the theory of immunology and serology, normal and acquired immunity, antigens and antibodies, antigen-antibody reactions, autoimmune diseases, and other diseases associated with the immune system.  Test methods covered are precipitation, agglutination, immunoassay, and molecular methods.  Quality control, computer applications, and safety are also covered.

Parkview Medical Center does not have a separate serology department.  The reading for serology and immunology is covered during the rotation in Blood Bank.  Laboratory experience in serology testing occurs throughout the different departments. 

3 semester hours

  • A serology test for HIV antibodies is performed

    Learn how to perform accurate testing for antigens or antibodies to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases like AIDS and syphilis
