District 70 - Parkview

School to Employment Program (STEP)
The School to Employment program is a collaboration between Parkview Medical Center and Pueblo School District 70. High school juniors interested in a healthcare career apply for the STEP program during their spring semester and once selected, spend six hours a week at Parkview in the fall semester of their senior year.

Several specialties in Rehabilitation, Nursing, Medical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Diagnostic Imaging, Pharmacy and Nutrition offer students a once in a lifetime opportunity of shadowing a mentor in their area of interest, while earning high school credit.

In the first five years of this program, more than 70 percent of these students are now enrolled in a degree or technical training program leading to a career in healthcare.

Pueblo City School Health Academy
Parkview Medical Center has been actively involved with Pueblo City Schools’ Health Academy program since its inception.

This highly successful four-year program prepares high school students for the academic rigor of a degree or technical certificate program in healthcare. High school curriculum provides the students with the background and theory to help them succeed with post-secondary education, while a multitude of training opportunities and partnering with Pueblo Community College allows the student to earn certification as a certified nurse’s assistant or emergency medical technician while earning college credit.

Students spend time at Parkview Medical Center as part of their program during their sophomore and senior years. Parkview welcomes the opportunity of providing an up close view for the students of how healthcare professionals make a difference everyday.

Minority Youth Program
Parkview Medical Center is proud to be affiliated with the efforts of Pueblo Worklink and Pueblo Community College in offering quarterly Health Care Awareness Camps to provide opportunities to students of diverse backgrounds.

Combining classroom and highly interactive learning situations over the course of six weeks, these potential healthcare providers learn a variety of skills that will assist them in securing employment, as well as determining if an occupation in healthcare is worth pursuing. Parkview hosts students participating in this program to visit our campus. Through the use of simulated, clinical settings, these students learn about our environment and the important work done here every day to restore and maintain health.

For many, this program opens the door for students to pursue their dream of having a career in healthcare.

P.I.E. Partners in Education
Partners in Education is a partnership between Pueblo area business men & women, non-profit agencies and school leaders to provide a forum for discussion about issues that concern both business and education through formation of action plans to address these concerns. Parkview Medical Center hosts a meeting annually to discuss and plan activities for the next calendar year. Parkview also participates in the Pueblo Youth Fair, Character Education Celebration and other activities that support our students in Pueblo.
