Ralph has been named the Starlight Gala Honoree for his leadership and commitment to Parkview Medical Center as well as his generous contributions to the Pueblo community. Ralph was born and raised in Pueblo and graduated from Central High School. Ralph attended Pueblo College where he received his AA Degree in 1961. Ralph was a two-year letterman as a lineman on the Pueblo College Indian’s football team. He continued his college education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from CSU in Political Science in 1963. Shortly after graduating in 1963, Ralph worked for Fortino-Jackson Chevrolet and was hired in 1964 as an Insurance Agent at Steel City Investments, Inc., by Bret Kelly.
Growing up, Ralph was not a ladies man, but his friend Sam Cortese intervened to introduce him to Violet Veltri. Ralph and Vi were married on July 31, 1971 and were blessed with three children. After nearly twenty-five years of marriage, Ralph lost Vi in 1996. The Parkview Foundation was one of the charities designated for memorial contributions to honor Vi. The Foundation used the contributions to purchase a blue hippo examination table for Kidsville Pediatric Unit that still remains today, to ease the anxiety of the youngest patients entering the pediatric unit. While attending the initial Kidsville grand opening with his good friend Dr. Ralph Spinuzzi, a pediatrician on Parkview’s staff, Ralph became reacquainted with a Parkview employee by the name of Jan, who happened to be Dr. Spinuzzi’s cousin. Ralph and Jan were married on November 2, 1997.
Ralph has been with SCA Insurance since 1964 and has served as Secretary, Secretary/ Treasurer, Executive Vice President and President/ CEO of SCA Insurance. Since the sale of SCA Insurance to HUB International Southwest Agency, Ltd., Ralph now fills the role of Senior Executive Vice President.
Throughout his distinguished career with SCA Insurance, Ralph has received several acknowledgments including being named 2004 “Business Leader of the Year” by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. In 1993, the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce also named SCA Insurance “Small Business of the Year.”
Currently, in addition to his role at SCA/ HUB International Southwest Agency, Ltd., Ralph serves as Secretary on the Colorado State University- Pueblo Foundation Board of Trustees. He also serves as Treasurer and Board of Director Member on Health Access Pueblo (HAP) with four individuals from the Pueblo medical community. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo Foundation and Pueblo Rotary Club No. 43. Ralph also is a committee member for the YMCA of Pueblo Chairman’s Round Table. He is a member of Pueblo Economic Development Corporation and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society.
Ralph has also sat on the Board of Directors for the Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation, YMCA of Pueblo, Vectra Bank Colorado (Pueblo Banks) and Colorado State University – Pueblo Hasan School of Business. He has served as President of the Board for Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo Foundation, Pueblo Rotary 43 and Pueblo Rotary 43 Foundation.
Even more than his active roles in Pueblo’s business community, Ralph’s favorite roles are husband, dad and grandpa. Ralph and his wife Jan enjoy spending time with their five children: Marc Williams and his wife Nancy; Beth Faulkner and her husband Philip; Janelle Prage and her husband Edward; Geoffrey Boyer and his fiancé Stacie Schimmels; and Brittany Boyer. They have four grandchildren: Nick Angelo and Kristen Mercedes Williams; and Anne Louise Xin Er and Claire Violet Faulkner.
