Parkview and community partners give Kidsville® a new look

PUEBLO, Colo. (August 13, 2007)--- Parkview Medical Center’s pediatric unit, Kidsville, is hosting an Open House to unveil the unit’s new look. The public is invited to this special celebration of the one-of-a-kind unit, on Wednesday, August 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the unit’s five private rooms, one semi-private room, three-bed nursery and playroom, which are creatively decorated to depict a mini-Pueblo.
Kidsville Pediatric Unit opened its doors to Parkview’s youngest patients in 1996. Since its inception, Kidsville has worked with local businesses to bring in partners who underwrite the costs of the facades and room furnishings on the unit. Each community partner’s business is creatively represented in Kidsville’s child-friendly décor. The newly renovated unit features updated facades and rooms, state-of-the-art beds, flat screen televisions, DVD players and of course interactive elements to make children feel right at home.
“You must see this unit first hand to truly understand how amazing it really is,” explained Lisa Siegel, Parkview Foundation director, who spearheaded the fundraising efforts for Kidsville. “Kidsville means something special not only to our patients and their families, but also to the business community in southern Colorado.”
Kidsville treats between 1,400 to 1,800 children, from birth to 18 years of age each year. The unit also boasts 15 registered nurses that are PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified and have collective pediatric experience of 130 years.
Kidsville is located on the first floor of the medical center and can be accessed by taking elevator 7 or 8 from the lobby floor. For more information on Kidsville Pediatric Unit at Parkview, call the Parkview Foundation at (719) 584-4526.
