Parkview Medical Center participating in Countywide Disaster Training Exercise

PUEBLO, CO (May 5, 2010)--- Parkview Medical Center will be participating in a countywide disaster drill on Wednesday, May 5. The exercise will take place at a field location and numerous agencies from across Pueblo County will partake in the drill to test all operating systems in a safe, controlled environment.
Parkview Medical Center has been an active participant in the annual countywide disaster drill since its inception more than a decade ago. “We participate annually in this drill to learn,” explained Eileen Dennis, Parkview Chief Nursing Officer. “Parkview Medical Center’s culture is based on Continuous Quality Improvement, and participation in this drill is essential in finding areas in which we need to improve.”
Participating in the drill is an opportunity for all Pueblo County first responder agencies to maximize resources being used, and gauge what is done well. It is also an opportunity to look at the areas that need to be more prepared in the event of an actual disaster that would put a strain on Pueblo County emergency services.
The countywide disaster drill is a great benefit to Parkview to prepare internal resources in the event of a disaster, but it also benefits Parkview by strengthening bonds with other agencies that would be involved in the event of a real crisis.
It is the hope of Parkview and all the other participating agencies, that the need to use this training never arises, but as we have learned from recent events, being prepared for a disaster can make a life or death difference.
