Mission
The mission of the Parkview Medical Center Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency is to provide excellent patient care and service to Southeastern Colorado. In doing so, we will produce a well-rounded general osteopathic internist who is proficient in clinical medicine and exhibits empathy toward patients.

OGME Year 1 Description
Learning Objectives:
OGME-1 residents will be responsible for patient care at no more than 10 per day. They are involved in admission management and discharge of their assigned patients. They are expected to progress in history taking, physical examinations and differential diagnoses. They will develop a better understanding of disease recognition and management through case discussions and presentations. They will take call on a 1:4 rotation or with a senior resident taking 2nd call in-house with them. They will also be expected to teach students on services with them and during didactics. In continuity clinic they will demonstrate progressive independence for patient management advancing from 2 to 8 patients each half day. They will be involved in assigned hospital committees.

OGME Years 2 AND 3 Description
Learning Objectives:
OGME-2 and 3 residents are expected to take an increasing role in supervising and teaching junior residents and students on rotation and during didactics. They will be expected to interact more closely with attending physicians. They should be able to supervise the care of 15-20 patients per day as they lead their service team. They will take call on a 1:5 to 1:6. In continuity clinic, they will be expected to manage 6-8 patients per half day with increasing independence. They will be involved in assigned hospital committees.

Daily House Staff Schedule
A typical day begins with sign-in rounds at 7:00 am. The night float team will review any admissions and inpatient issues that occur overnight.
7:30 AM: Morning report begins for residents as well as the night float team. Interesting cases are reviewed at this time with faculty member. Morning report ends at 8:30 am.
8:30 AM – 10:30 AM: Management rounds occur with the senior residents providing guidance to junior residents in management of patients. The residents write all orders.
10:30 AM – 12 PM: (Variable): Teaching rounds occur. At this time interesting cases are discussed with the attending and further treatment plans are formulated.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Medical conference (see conference description below)
12:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Review patient care issues, finish daily progress notes and review any discharge plans with social services for the following day.
5:00 PM: Sign-out rounds
5:00 PM – 9:00 PM: Short-call
8:30 PM – 8:30 AM: Night float call
7:00 AM – 7:00 AM: (Following Day) Intern Long Call
Conferences/Academics
Attendance is mandatory at all conferences. Exceptions will be made for patient care emergencies and as approved by the program director.
Morning Report
Monday through Friday
Mortality and Morbidity
M&M will take place at the monthly Didactic sessions. At this time autopsies will be reviewed with the pathologist and clinical case correlations will take place with those on the teaching service.
Journal Club/Evidence-Based Medicine
Each month an interesting article will be reviewed from a peer-review internal medicine journal. The precepts of evidence-based medicine will be applied at this time to critically appraise a journal article.
Board Review
Weekly board review sessions take place under the direction of a faculty member utilizing the wireless audience response system.
Continuing Medical Education Conferences
Parkview Medical Center has an active CME program for the physicians in the community. Residents and interns will be expected to participate in these educational sessions.
Ambulatory Continuity Clinic
Parkview Medical Center owns and operates two ambulatory clinical centers that will be utilized for residency training with continuity of care. |
