"My husband and I have a cabin in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains overlooking the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado. The painting 'Shadowed Back Roads' depicts a section of dirt road as it climbs to our elevation of 8500 feet. This was painted late on an October day. The aspens were at their peak and the late afternoon shadows cast upon the road created a beautiful pattern and in my mind's eye took on the deep and pale plum colors I used. The vivid colors of the road and aspen seemed to deepen the background hills. It was a joyful experience painting and interpreting this lovely scene," explained Fran Dodds.
