  • A medical technologist performs a wide variety of laboratory tests--from simple screen tests to more complex tests to uncover and monitor diseases such as AIDS, diabetes, and cancer. They perform these procedures using a variety of complex precision instruments. Technologists work in five major areas of the laboratory: Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Serology.

Scope of Service:
  • The School of Medical Technology provides a 12-month course that prepares a student for a challenging career as a medical technologist. At the completion of the clinical year, the student is eligible to take the national certifying boards to become a registered medical technologist.
  • Class begins in July

Admission Requirements:
  • BA degree from an accredited college or university
  • Affiliated Universities - 3 years of college plus the year of clinical training at our medical center is accepted as the 4th year by the University.
  • Colorado State University - Pueblo
  • credits are awarded by the university
  • At least a 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Required Courses
  • 16 semester or 24 quarter hours in Chemistry - must include Organic and/or Biochemistry
  • 16 semester or 24 quarter hours in Biological Sciences - must include Microbiology and Immunology
  • One college math course
  • If all course work in Chemistry and Biology was completed seven or more years before application,contact program for required updates on course work.
  • All required courses must be acceptable toward a major in that field
  • Courses with a "D" will not count toward these course requirements
