Parkview Foundation Scholarship Program: Strengthening Our Community One Student at a Time

The Parkview Foundation under the direction of an exceptional Board of Directors and the work of its dedicated staff continues to be a pivotal source of funding to Parkview Medical Center. Established in 1976, the Parkview Foundation raises funds to further the mission of the medical center. For the past forty plus years the Parkview Foundation has been involved in many projects ranging from fundraising events, sponsoring employee recognition awards and supporting healthcare scholarships.

The impact of every gift received by the Foundation from generous donors is significant to the continued growth of Parkview Medical Center. It is through this collective generosity that positively attributes to our achievements. The Parkview Foundation has been instrumental in providing funds to improve facilities, enhance services, advance technology and support quality improvement opportunities at Parkview.

The Parkview Foundation holds an increasingly important role for the community by investing in higher education. Scholarships are an investment to ensure that we have optimal healthcare in Pueblo for many generations to come. Scholarships are awarded to employees and students in the community pursuing degrees in nursing and acute medical fields. The impact of Parkview Foundation scholarships is significant in terms of maintaining a strong healthcare workforce in the community. The Foundation determines the need for scholarships by identifying healthcare professions that are in high demand. Please review the scholarship criteria as outlined below and apply for the scholarship(s) you qualify for.

C.W. Smith Healthcare Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria: The Parkview Foundation is providing a healthcare scholarship to a resident of Pueblo County enrolled in a healthcare program at an accredited college or university in Colorado. This scholarship is in honor of C.W. Smith who dedicated 24 years of service to Parkview Medical Center.

The maximum amount of the scholarship award is $2,500 per academic year. The scholarship is designed to pay tuition and fees up to a maximum award of $2,500.

Applicant must be a Pueblo County resident enrolled as a junior or senior in an undergraduate program, graduate program, or two-year program at the beginning of the fall semester.(Nursing students pursing an ADN or BSN degree must apply for the Community Nursing Scholarship if they are non-employees of Parkview Medical Center and expect to graduate May 2015).

Must meet baccalaureate/associate admission standards of an accredited college or university and must be accepted into an acute healthcare related program or pre-healthcare curriculum as a full-time or part-time student.

Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and must maintain a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during the term of scholarship.

Must attach a letter of acceptance from a college or university.

Must attach two letters of reference either professional and/or member of the faculty.

Medical Staff Healthcare Scholarship

2014 Parkview Medical Staff Healthcare Scholarship in memory of Michael Hansa, M.D.

Scholarship Criteria: In honor of our skilled and dedicated Medical Staff at Parkview Medical Center, the Parkview Foundation and Parkview Medical Center have joined together to provide a healthcare scholarship to a resident of Pueblo County enrolled in a healthcare program at an accredited college or university in Colorado.

The maximum amount of the scholarship award is $5,000 per academic year. The scholarship is designed to pay tuition and fees up to a maximum award of $5,000.

Employee Nursing Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria: The Parkview Foundation is offering scholarships to employees enrolled in a nursing program at an accredited college or university. The scholarship will pay tuition and fees. The maximum amount of the scholarship award is $3,000 per academic year.

You must have been employed by Parkview Medical Center for one year. (Full-time, Part-Time, PRN, Nurse Intern)

Must be accepted into a nursing program (ADN, BSN or MSN) at an accredited college or university

Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and must maintain a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during the term of the scholarship.

Must attach a letter of acceptance into the nursing program.

Must attach two letters of reference either professional and/or member of the faculty.

Attach official transcript.

SCEMA Nursing and PAL Scholarship

Parkview Foundation SCEMA (Southern Colorado Emergency Medical Associates) Nursing and PAL’s Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria: The Parkview Foundation and Southern Colorado Emergency Medical Associates (SCEMA) have joined together to provide scholarships to and/or a nursing student employed in the Emergency Department at Parkview Medical Center or a graduating high school senior from a high school in Pueblo County. The scholarship is non-renewable and pays a maximum of $1,500 per academic year toward tuition and fees.

You must have been employed by Parkview Medical Center in the Emergency Department for a period of one year (Full-time, Part-Time, PRN) or be a graduating high school senior from a high school in Pueblo County.

Must be accepted into a nursing program (ADN, BSN or MSN) at an accredited college or university in Pueblo County as a continuous full-time or part-time student.

Must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must attach a letter of acceptance from a college or university.

Must attach two letters of reference either professional and/or member of the faculty.

Attach official transcript of courses.

Community Nursing Scholarship

Parkview Foundation Community Nursing Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria: The Parkview Foundation is offering two scholarships to senior nursing students attending Pueblo Community College or Colorado State University - Pueblo. Nurse Interns are eligible. This scholarship will pay for tuition and fees. The maximum amount of the scholarship award is $3,000 per academic year.

Student must be in good standing at college or university

Student must be in their senior year of a nursing program as a full-time or part-time student and expect to graduate by May 2015.

Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and must maintain a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale during the term of the scholarship.

Agree to work at Parkview Medical Center for one year, for each two semester school year tuition is paid by the Parkview Foundation. One year of employment is defined as 2,000 paid hours.

Must attach two letters of reference either professional and/or member of the faculty.

Must attach a letter of acceptance into the nursing program.
