Parkview Medical Center Announces 2019 Starburst Award Winners
Continuing with tradition and the pursuit of excellence since 1983, the Parkview Foundation has announced the winners of the Starburst Awards. The Starburst Awards recognizes employees for their outstanding contributions in customer service, patient care and/or quality improvement efforts.
Clinical, Sunshine, Moon Beam and Parkview Way Team Award comprise the four categories of the Starburst Awards. Nominees must be employed by Parkview Medical Center for a minimum of one year and should consistently demonstrate the values of the organization: honesty and integrity, accountability, respect, teamwork and stewardship.
Clinical (Any employee who performs direct patient care)
The 2019 Clinical Starburst winner is RN, Christine Wellnitz. Christine is described as the employee everyone wishes they had. She consistently puts her patients to ease by listening to their needs, advocating for them and being approachable. It is evident through Christine’s smiling is one of her strongest attributes. She answers the phone with a smile, smiles when communicating to patients and when the days are long, she unfailingly is smiling and encourages her team do so as well. Christine is a true leader who guides her team with positive support and compassion.
Sunshine (Any day shift employee who is not involved in direct patient care)
Nancy Maynes-Higbee from Patient Transport is the 2019 Sunshine Award winner. Known as the “transport mom” and for brining joy to the department, Nancy is someone who is the epitome of accountable. She never calls off work, is consistent and works hard her entire shift. She goes the extra mile by providing additional love and personal gifts if someone is feeling down. She encourages everyone to be nice and is always uplifting the mood of everyone around her.
Moonbeam (Any employee who works nights)
A yearning for educational enhancement, experience, compassion and a positive attitude are characteristics that describe Jeanette (Gina) Lucero, RN in Surgery, as the 2019 Moon Beam Award winner. Gina offers immense knowledge and education to the surgical staff, is involved with many training activities and skill fairs and has made many process improvement suggestions that have in turn been implemented. She goes above and beyond to make every patient feel comfortable and exemplifies compassion to everyone. Her enthusiasm to lend a hand to co-workers and dedication to the hospital are unmatched.
Parkview Way Team Award (A group of employees as a team or department who demonstrate one of the vie values of Honest & Integrity, Accountability, Respect, Teamwork or Stewardship by living the Parkview Way)
The Breast Care Pathway Team is the 2019 Parkview Way Team Award. The team includes Lori Harrison, Rick McManemon, Ryan Smith, Rebecca Hurley, Jennifer Montes, Adriana Quintana, Anne Greco, Dana Charles, Donna Hill, Jamie Castillo-Ludwig, Terry Hall, Shari Martinez, Desiree Lucero, and Shelley Geier. This team was successful in using the pathway protocol to reduce the days from screen to biopsy rom an average of 45 days to seven days. The team endured many meetings and workflow changes over a nine month period. They stayed determined to improve the process and because of their unwavering commitment to patients, they have significantly improved patient satisfaction and increased survival rates.
