Parkview Foundation Announces Starburst Winners
Continuing with tradition and the pursuit of excellence since 1983, the Parkview Foundation has announced the winners of the Starburst Awards. The Starburst Awards recognizes employees for their outstanding contributions in customer service, patient care and/or quality improvement efforts.
Clinical, Sunshine, Moon Beam and Parkview Way Team Award comprise the four categories of the Starburst Awards. Nominees must be employed by Parkview Medical Center for a minimum of one year and should consistently demonstrate the values of the organization: honesty and integrity, accountability, respect, teamwork and stewardship. Parkview Foundation board members then review the nominations and select winners. Committee members include Lisha Coultrip, Kim King, Allison Nizami, Michelle Ribaudo and Julie Rodriguez.
Clinical (Any employee who performs direct patient care)
The 2021 Clinical Starburst winner is Medical Assistant, Richard “Rick” Dawson. Rick is described as the epitome of attentiveness. He always makes sure tasks get done before they need to be, strives to keep things on schedule in the office and never hesitates to help his teammates with their duties. He is always incredibly kind to patients, takes time to call patients and goes above and beyond to make sure they are comfortable. He has an innate care for people that you cannot teach but what separates Rick from his peers is his “One Team, One Flight” motto. His attitude of togetherness encourages everyone around him to improve their work processes.
Sunshine (Any day shift employee who is not involved in direct patient care)
Desiree Talmich, Patient Transportation is the 2021 Sunshine Award winner. Known for always trying to better herself and her fellow employees, Desiree keeps up to date on everything going on in the hospital in order to improve patient care and work processes. She comes to work everyday with a smile on her face, with a top-notch attitude and providing exceptional patient service as her main priority. Her team describes her as a constant reminder of what goodness looks like, in a world of hard times.
Moon Beam (Any employee who works nights)
Kindness, focusing and taking time to care for patients, professionalism and exceptional communication, are just a few positive characteristics that describe Stephanie Johnson, Registered Nurse and winner of the 2021 Moon Beam Award. Stephanie is known for always taking time to teach others with kindness, professionalism and inspiration. She makes everyone feel part of the patient care team and respects all employees. The patients and staff know Stephanie as someone who will take the time to listen and go above and beyond for everyone around her.
Parkview Way Team Award (A group of employees as a team or department who demonstrate one of the five values of Honest & Integrity, Accountability, Respect, Teamwork or Stewardship by living the Parkview Way)
An often, under-recognized component of health, is the mental health of individuals. The Parkview Behavioral Health Team strives to guarantee mental health of individuals and patients are addressed. This is why they are the 2021 Parkview Way award winners. They have particularly been in high demand since the COVID-19 pandemic. They collaborate with multiple physicians and specialties throughout the hospital to provide best possible interventions, education and referrals for patients. The work continuously to ensure patients are safe and supported. Team members include Shanalee Ouros, Myriah Hagerman, Elizabeth McKinley, Macie Cisneros, Cyndra Shisler, Chelsea Whipple, Stephanie Hager, Kyndra Costanz, Catherine Carbajal, Jenna Patton, Cheryl Weglin, and Nicole Bower.
