Parkview's commitment to our community advances

Parkview’s mission is to “provide the highest quality health care to the people we serve.” Our vision is “to be the provider of choice for patients, physicians, and employees.” Committed to these guiding documents, Parkview completed another successful year.

Since it all began in 1923, Parkview Medical Center has provided millions of dollars in charity care to our community and in fiscal 2016, this important work continued. With the state’s expansion of Medicaid, our region in particular has seen tremendous growth in the number of Medicaid recipients and the latest county numbers indicate more than 60,000 of the 160,000 people in our county are aligned for Medicaid services. Our business volume with Medicaid has moved from 14% in 2010 to over 28% today.

Parkview remains one of only two large, independent community hospitals operating in Colorado. Parkview’s success can be directly attributed to its outstanding governing board. Our board members define themselves as Pueblo citizens first and Parkview board members second.  Having this independence allows the Board and leadership the ability to prioritize key decisions and commit resources based solely on the needs of our community.

Investment in our community goes well beyond the millions in charity care provided every year.  Parkview continues its great work as the region’s Level II trauma center and also continues to bring state-of-the-art technology to our community, including expansion of the region’s most advanced da Vinci surgical assist robotic program.

More important than our technology is our investment in our people. As the region’s largest employer with nearly 3,000 outstanding individuals, Parkview continues to strategically grow. Parkview’s Internal Medicine Residency continues to produce top quality physicians and this past year the program graduated its third full class of 10 physicians. The investment in this program was designed to attract and retain much-needed physicians to our region and our success to date has been outstanding, with more than 60% of the graduating physicians opting to stay in Pueblo.

On behalf of our outstanding employees, physicians and volunteers, I thank you for choosing Parkview for your health care needs. We look forward to serving our great community in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Michael T. Baxter
