Cancer Services

Parkview Medical Center’s dedicated Medical Oncology Unit offers a full range of care for adults being treated for cancer. Cancer is an illness that places great demands on patients, their families, and friends. Our oncology certified nurses and clinicians understand these stresses and supports patients and their families.

We offer a complete range of diagnostic services, surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and nursing services. The oncology unit has spacious, private patient rooms with accommodations for overnight stays for families. The unit provides a comforting and calm environment for receiving both outpatient and inpatient cancer treatments.

In addition to providing exceptional services for more than 10 years, the oncology staff addresses the emotional aspects of dealing with cancer, guided by the philosophy of respect for the dignity of each patient, honoring treatment choices, and offering supportive care. Patients and family members are encouraged to participate in decision making. We seek to assist patients and families as they journey down a difficult road while relieving suffering and enhancing quality of life not only for the patient, but for family as well.

Parkview Medical oncology nurses are devoted to delivering individualized physical and emotional care. All nurses are knowledgeable about the safe handling of chemotherapy and administer the medications to patients according to the guidelines recommended by the Oncology Nursing Society and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. A variety of educational materials are available for patients and caregivers including written materials and websites that discuss specific types of cancer and treatments.

In addition to the nursing staff, other multidisciplinary care members are on hand to provide social work services for assistance after leaving the hospital, clinical nutrition assessment and information, rehabilitation as needed, and ongoing spiritual support during and after hospitalization.

We are passionate about being an active participant in cancer related causes and have been involved in recent community activities such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in June. Parkview also hosts the Look Good, Feel Better classes offered by the American Cancer Society every other month.

Our Mission

To provide competent, quality healthcare to the population it services, particularly those being treated for cancer. The unit believes in meeting the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of cancer patients and their families: relief of symptoms, special treatments, and promotion of comfort, education and support during periods of change and grief.
