Weight Loss Surgery
What is weight loss surgery?
Bariatric or weight loss surgery at Parkview includes one of two approaches to reduce the size of the stomach and restrict food intake - bariatric gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.
Gastric Bypass: The stomach is made smaller by creating a small pouch with surgical staples. The smaller stomach is then attached to the middle section of the small intestine, bypassing the first portion of the intestinal tract.
Sleeve Gastrectomy: Removes 60-80% of the stomach, including the part of the stomach that produces the hunger-stimulating hormone.
Are you a candidate?
For many of us, losing weight is hard. You are not alone: more than one-third (about 78 million) of all adults in the United States are obese. If you are struggling to lose a significant amount of weight, our doctors can help you lose the weight and regain your health through minimally invasive bariatric surgery.
Weight loss surgery may be an excellent option if you have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher, or a BMI of 35 or higher with obesity-related health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.
Ready for change?
Obesity is a treatable medical condition. Bariatric surgery can help you regain your health and energy through weight loss, and can dramatically change your life.
