Fine Love

For the Fine family this Mother’s Day, they wore their heart not on their sleeve but as a logo emblazoned on their red T-shirts.

Built into the logo for Loveworks is a reference to the Apostle Paul’s first letter to Corinth:

“Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not boast. It is not proud.”

The Fines, along with friends from their Rocky Mountain Baptists Church in Pueblo, spread love to the new mothers in Parkview Medical Center’s Birth Place just a few days prior to Mother’s Day.

For the past few months, they had been collecting diapers and making blankets by hand to deliver to the Parkview Medical Center nursery, a special gift to get new moms and their babies off to a good start.Fine Family

Rebekah and Steve Fine delivered all four of their children at Parkview Medical Center and were touched by the caps and blankets – hand-knitted by volunteers in the community – that they received prior to heading home with their newborn.

The caps are a common donation by people in the community and Parkview often happily accepts donations from the community into the nursery and the Kidsville Pediatric Unit.

To the Fines, the gifts were also a figurative cap on the positive experience they had each time in the labor and delivery department at Parkview.

“For us the experience has always been very positive,” Steven said. “The nurses and the doctors are always wonderful.”

“For us, one of the things my wife and I will always remember is they gave us these knitted caps and it just struck us that there were groups of people out there thinking about others,” Steve added.

So the family began their project to pay it forward, and to share the basic tenet of their faith – loving one another – by working to eventually complete 29 hand-sewn blankets and using them to wrap a package of newborn or size 1 diapers.

“We just thought it was neat that somebody had invested so much time into something like (the caps) for somebody they probably won’t ever meet,” Rebekah said.
