Moving Forward, Together, at Parkview Pueblo West

Parkview Pueblo West is now the most convenient place for Pueblo and southern Colorado patients to undergo outpatient and short-stay elective orthopedic surgeries.

Parkview Health System’s new $58 million orthopedic center is now open. The 58,000-square-foot building is located adjacent to Parkview’s Emergency Services building at the intersection of Purcell and Industrial Blvd in Pueblo West. New signs mark the entrance and inside, a bright, colorful lobby, café space, admissions area and waiting room welcomes employees, patients and guests.

“One of the things this new facility will provide is the opportunity to keep growing our orthopedic services,” said Maggie Welte, Parkview Pueblo West Administrator. “We have seen the need to increase our services over the past few years, but now, by having a hospital that specializes in orthopedic care, we can focus on the task and cater to all of the people that require our orthopedic services throughout Southern Colorado.”

The new state-of-the-art facility features 6 high-tech operating suites with advanced robotic medicine and interactive projection screens that provide live high-definition video feeds from the operating room so surgery can be observed for training or educational purposes. There is also an on-site lab and a new retail pharmacy. Expanded outpatient rehabilitation space has been provided for our physical and occupational therapy teams.

“The new facility will allow me to provide the people of southern Colorado with the most current techniques in adult reconstruction, such as anterior approach total hip replacement, robotically-assisted partial knee replacement and total knee replacement, as well as revision hip and knee surgery,” said Dr. Shane Rothermel, a surgeon with Parkview Orthopedics. “I moved here from the east coast after specialized training in hip and knee replacement surgery, and a major factor in that decision was construction of this dedicated orthopedic hospital.”

On the walls, beautiful and unique artwork showcases Pueblo and southern Colorado artists and their interpretations of familiar southern Colorado locations.

“From the starting consultation to the surgery, to an overnight stay (if needed), to returning for rehab, it will all be in one place at the same facility,” commented Leslie Barnes, Parkview President and CEO. “Our team is focused on outstanding outcomes and a seamless patient experience.”

Outside, the hospital has a separate drive-up patient pick-up area and a publicly accessible quarter-mile walking track with exercise stations, trees, benches and a shady pergola. The health and wellness area was completely funded by the Parkview Foundation.

A total of 92 full-time staff, including four orthopedic surgeons and one podiatrist, will staff the hospital.
