General Surgery

About Anam Pal

I am a general surgeon who specializes in Bariatric (weight loss) surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery. My interests include: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy; revisional bariatric surgery, including conversion of sleeve gastrectomy to gastric bypass, and removal of laparoscopic gastric band; foregut surgery including hiatal hernia and paraesophageal hernia repair with fundoplication; inguinal hernia repair; abdominal wall, umbilical, and ventral hernia repair; colorectal surgery; endocrine surgery including surgery of the adrenal gland; and other minimally invasive procedures.

I am proficient in laparoscopic, robotic, and open techniques.

I was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. I spent the first few years of my life in the United Kingdom. The contrast between the developed and developing world left a deep impression on me, and instilled within me a desire to help people. This naturally led me to a career in medicine. I developed a keen interest in Bariatric surgery during my surgical training, when I noticed the most talented Minimally Invasive Surgeons were Bariatric surgeons.

After I learned more about the field of weight loss surgery and the incredible benefits it has for morbidly obese patients, it also became personal. My grandmother was morbidly obese, and appeared to be doing just fine until she suddenly collapsed from a massive heart attack when she was only 60 years old. Her time with us was too short. She had tried many times to lose weight in the past but had been unsuccessful each time. She had always dreamed of seeing me become a doctor; she passed away before I got an acceptance letter from the best medical school in my country. If she had been able to get bariatric surgery, it would have added at least 10 more years to her life.

Obesity is a disease that is stealing our loved ones from us at too young an age. With my surgical skills and my passion for helping my patients, I am able to help my patients achieve their weight loss goals and improve their quality of life.

Hobbies and Interests:

I enjoy video games, and firmly believe that my interest in gaming is the reason I am able to perform laparoscopic and robotic surgery without difficulty. I also enjoy skiing and hope to one day improve my skills to the point where I can ski off-piste in the Himalayas in Kashmir.
