Parkview Starlight Gala

The 42nd Annual Starlight Gala will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Parkview Health System. The Gala will be one of many events to highlight the 100th anniversary of Parkview throughout 2023.

A historical perspective: Born from despair, rising to success. Parkview in the 1920’s.

Parkview in 1926

Just over a century ago, the devastating flood of 1921 nearly destroyed Pueblo - splitting the city in half for weeks before the flood waters finally subsided. As recovery efforts progressed, six prominent physicians in the Pueblo community foresaw the need for a new hospital on the rapidly expanding north side of town. These doctors witnessed many unfortunate flood victims needing care – but unable to cross the swollen rivers to reach Pueblo’s two hospitals (St. Mary’s and Corwin) located on the south side of town. No longer would portions of the community be isolated from access to healthcare.

The new hospital opened its doors to patients on March 17, 1923, from an area overlooking the popular Mineral Palace Park – and was christened

“Parkview”.  Originally operated by Parkview Hospital Association in a private residence, construction of the present hospital was completed in 1926 on the same site. The new 3 story, u-shaped structure located off 17th Street was designed to provide additional wings and could accommodate 23 patients. That original structure with its unique Tudor Style architecture remains an important part of the hospital and a historical symbol of Pueblo.

The hospital has undergone many additions since 1926 and today is Pueblo’s largest healthcare provider and one of three community-based hospitals in Colorado. Parkview Health System operates as a Colorado non-profit organization and is Pueblo’s largest employer with 3,000 employees and a skilled medical staff of over 370 physicians. The hospital is licensed for 350 beds and offers full range of comprehensive healthcare services including a Level III Trauma Center, orthopedic, cardiology/vascular, women’s health, neurological and behavioral health.

Parkview’s Starlight Gala recognizes community philanthropy

The first Starlight Gala was held in 1980 in the hospital’s cafeteria with 173 guests attending and raised $4,425. This event has evolved immensely and has become one of Pueblo’s premier black-tie staple events. Many deserving individuals and couples have been honored for their support of Parkview along with their philanthropic support of many worthwhile charitable organizations in our community.

Puebloans Joe & Kris Bower, Mark Dunsmoor, Craig Eliot Cisney and Judy Weaver are proudly recognized as the 42nd Annual Starlight Gala Honorees and will be celebrated at our 100th anniversary. Please make plans to join us and applaud this distinguished group for their commitment to our community and Parkview as we present them with the Century of Service Starlight Gala award.
